Editing Service Rates
Before I can give you a quote for your editing job, I will need to know a few details about your project, and preferably view it for an initial assessment. This will enable me to determine the level of work required and estimate a time frame for completion. While some editors may provide up-front fixed quotes based on a word count, I find this to be an inaccurate method of determining a fair price for you as an author and myself as an editor. My service is about quality not quantity.
Different types of editing require different levels of time, experience and effort: an ESL paper may need a heavy copyedit, a fiction manuscript may require an assessment or structural edit, while a thesis has specific university guidelines an editor must follow. (For a full explanation of each stage of editing, please visit my Editing page.)
Every editor has their own style and personality. If you are unsure whether we would be a good fit, requesting a sample edit is a good opportunity to assess our suitability before committing to a full project. It will also allow us to establish a firm understanding of how you would like your edits delivered. (Should you decide to go ahead with a full edit, the cost of your sample edit will be deducted from the overall project quote.)
Editing Methods to Consider:
- Word track change edits (most popular format)
- Pdf proofing comments only
- Advanced writer comments
- First-time author comments
- Hands-on rewriting
- Clean copy only

“To my editor Annie Collins who tirelessly collated and structured the book that started off as a collection of stories, thoughts and reminiscences after my second divorce. Thank you for your empathy, advice, patience and the respectful manner in which you have edited the stories that make up my life.”
