When ordinary life is suddenly shattered, turning everyone against each other, Arathyn finds himself in a deadly mystery: villains bent on manipulation and to reshape human life.
He will need to tread a careful path, powered by long-lost spirits – a path with a curse that withers the soul. Who will prevail and at what cost?
Arathyn cannot do it alone. He will need allies in his crusade, to nurture bonds of trust and companionship in the midst of cursed distrust.
Will peace finally return or will the clutches of death rip apart any chance of normality?
Let's talk about it
Tell us something about yourself that not many people know.
I love driving trains. It took me 13 years of constant application to finally realise my childhood dream.
Why did you choose the themes in your book and were you aware of them from the start?
This story was planned years in advance of the first words I wrote down. I played World of Warcraft for nearly 20 years, so I became completely immersed in medieval settings and supernatural themes. A world that one can totally invest themselves in.
How difficult was it for you to write this book? Did you face any obstacles?
Very. The first book I’ve ever written was nothing more than a jumble of horrendous phrasing and terms at the very beginning. I toughed it out through feedback from family and friends and my writing got better and better. Self-doubt was prevalent through the early stages, however towards the end of this publication it got easier as everyone was so helpful in getting me to my goal.
Do you always write in this genre or do you like to break out of the box?
That’s one for the future 🙂
What are your writing habits or idiosyncrasies?
I write in first person. I put myself in the shoes of my characters and let my words shape their footsteps. I plan meticulously ahead of where I’m at currently, a few chapters at least. Weaving a compelling story together is an art; twists, mysteries and having the rug pulled out from under you is what I try to achieve. I love throwing sarcasm around, it brings people together and forces a laugh. It is perfect when mixed with perilous circumstance. You’ll always find my building a scene up to a climax.
What would you do differently next time?
The process of everything to do with final drafts to publication. Doing things too early / too late. To say I’ve learned a lot in the last 6 months would be a massive understatement.
With hindsight, what would you say to yourself as a fledgling writer?
You’ve got this, just write. If you have a great idea but don’t know where to place it, write it down anyway. You’ll be going over your draft a million times to finally amalgamate a perfect story.
If you worked with a professional editor, what was the experience like?
Busybird Publishing. Kev, Les and Joey. They were wonderful people to work with and always answered my questions, even when I could picture them shaking their heads at some of them. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I wouldn’t look anywhere else for the second book.
What’s next for your writing?
The second in the trilogy and I’ll tell you this: you think the first book is creative? I’m even surprising myself with the second.
